Cultivating Talent Key to Achieving Workplace Diversity

Mark Stedman - Thursday May 6, 2021

“I’m very lucky to have found a family-owned company like Roscoe that values and respects all cultures and diverse backgrounds.” To me, that is what makes us a strong company.” – Roscoe Operations Team Leader Miriam Avila

When Miriam Avila started at Roscoe as an entry-level production employee in 1994, her supervisor Mike Alesia quickly realized she had leadership potential.

He was right. Within seven years she was part of the Roscoe leadership team, heading up production in our main plant.

A series of promotions and 27 years later, today Avila oversees the Roscoe Operations Team. She considers herself fortunate to have found a company with leaders who recognized her potential from the outset.

As one of 20 employees with more than two decades of experience on the Roscoe team, Avila’s long career and steady rise at Roscoe is a clear example of the benefits of a company practice of growing our leaders from within. That’s why her story is featured as part of the February issue of Textile Services, the monthly magazine of the national industry association TRSA.

“I’m very lucky to have found a family-owned company like Roscoe that values and respects all cultures and diverse backgrounds,” Avila says in the story. “To me, that is what makes us a strong company.”

Growing a Diverse Workforce and Tapping In-House Talent

At Roscoe, we have long understood the advantages of creating a diverse workforce and finding our next leaders from within. Both have been key to our success in creating a second “family” of team members within our family business, and that is key to being able to deliver on our promise of providing the highest-quality customer service. We “take pride” in the work we do, but we are also incredibly proud of the team we have built.

If you are a customer, chances are good that you know the Roscoe employees who answer the phone when you call, along with all of the other employees who service your account. That’s because like Avila, our employees tend to make their careers here.

As we approach our 100th year in business, we could not be more grateful for the diverse, talented and dedicated people who make up the Roscoe team.
