Renting Textiles from a Local Independent Firm Versus a National Chain

Your favorite burger in Chicago is probably from a locally owned business as opposed to a national chain. Besides fresher ingredients, personalized service and a more unique flavor, supporting local businesses has countless other benefits for the economy and your community. Just as this is true for restaurants, the same can be said for many other businesses, including textile rental companies, like the Roscoe Chicago uniform company.

According to a study done by Market Measurement for the CSC Network, people actually prefer local, independent providers. The CSC Network, of which the mat rental company is a part of, is an alliance of over 160 textile rental companies that are local and independently owned, but have a combined revenue of over 1 billion. In the study, 800 telephone interviews were conducted with the primary decision makers of companies that rent textiles. Textiles can include work uniforms, floor mats, linens, towels, mops and wipers.

People Prefer Local, Independently Owned Textile Rental Companies

The first finding is that people prefer local independent textile rentals because they outperform national chains in the following categories:

  • Fair billing – 72% to 15%
  • Product quality – 62% to 21%
  • Quality personnel – 60% to 20%
  • Value for cost – 48% to 30%

The perception is that national chains are able to provide a lower price, but this study shows that local and independently owned are not only able to provide fairer prices, but at a better quality and through more responsive representatives.

Local, Independently Owned Textile Rental Companies Exceed Expectations

The second finding is that local textile rental companies exceed expectations and outperform the nationals in seven key service areas. The uniform rental company has posted about several common industry issues, many of which were rated.

  • Timely response – 63% to 26%
  • Uniform appearance – 61% to 35%
  • Complete delivery – 53% to 16%
  • Overall satisfaction – 53% to 25%
  • Repairs – 52% to 15%
  • Replacement policies – 49% to 24%
  • Billing policies – 49% to 19%

Finally, the study wanted to compare the experience of companies that have rented from both local, independently owned and national chains. The result? Companies that switched from a national chain to a local, independently owned, textile rental company stated that their service needs were met or exceeded virtually 100% of the time. Inversely, 1 in 3 companies that switched from local to national where worse off than they expected and 36% experienced worse service when they made the switch.
